GP with SPECIAL INTEREST in OPHTHALMOLOGY

Increasingly, worldwide, GPs are leaving comprehensive high overhead, high legal risk practice for focused medicine. Acupuncture, Anaesthetics, Complementary medicine, Cosmetic medicine, Dermatology, Hospitalist, Musculoskeletal medicine inc manipulation, Orthotics inc Podiatry, Palliative medicine, Psychotherapy, Sports medicine,

Ontario Health Insurance does not pay for eye tests between ages 20y-64y.(Exception are those on welfare or who have eye diseases).

Doctors can bill PRIVATELY, usually between $50 - $100.

Testing can be done quickly (20 minutes) and easily using AUTOREFRACTORS and TRIAL LENSES. Fundus cameras are invaluable for clinical and legal records.

Doctors can own Eye stores and hire Opticians to fit and sell specs and contacts.

Toronto now has a school for training GPs in Eye testing.
